About Little Farm
Adventures in building a modern farmhouse on Cape Cod
It’s already cliché. 2020 was the year that changed everything, for everyone. We had been happy New York City dwellers, spending the 2010s living and working in Manhattan. Right up until March of 2020, if you had asked if we had any plans to leave NYC, the answer would have been a hard no. We were lifers!
Then the pandemic hit, and we went from enjoying all the dining, arts, and culture NYC had to offer – to spending an absolute fortune every month to live and work 24 hours a day in a one-bedroom apartment. We were patient and cautious for a few months, always grateful for the privilege of working safely from home, but it took a toll.
By summer, we were ready to explore the possibility of living elsewhere. Having more space. Optimizing for access to the outdoors. We’re a lesbian couple with no children, so the suburbs would not be appealing to us. Living someplace remote would be beautiful, but too isolating. We would both still have professional ties to New York, so fairly easy access to the city would be important.
On a June trip to Cape Cod, we realized we found the ideal location. The Upper Cape in particular is only about an hour or so from Providence and Boston, meaning easy access to transportation to New York or elsewhere. In addition to miles of beautiful coastline, Cape Cod has plentiful hiking and kayaking, access to the freshest seafood, year-round community, and reliably liberal local politics.
In early August, we had found the listing and paid our first visit to Little Farm. The foundation and framing were complete, and it had most of the windows and a roof. The layout was perfect for our needs, and it was a blank canvas for interior design. For me, a career user experience designer, this was a dream. We jumped on the opportunity to make an offer. By September we were in contract.
Six months later, on an incredible home-building adventure that is still very much in progress, we closed. Little Farm is now our home, and we are excited to share our adventures in building a modern farmhouse on Cape Cod.
Interior design studio
I’m Kristen Connor, and I’ve been a professional designer for over 20 years. In my career as a user experience designer, I learned to study people’s needs, and solve for them by designing thoroughly enjoyable experiences.
Transitioning to interior design has been delightful for me. I get to use my years of design experience to help people create beautiful spaces where they spend the most important times of their lives, with friends and family.
Creating our Little Farm fulfilled a lifelong dream to design my own home. It helped me realize that I want to apply my design skills to helping people create beautiful, functional homes for their personal enjoyment.
That’s why I started Little Farm interior design studio here on Cape Cod. I want to use use my design skills to create approachable modern homes where you will fully enjoy spending your time, whatever that means to you.
Little Farm has three core values that we apply to every interior design project:

Redfin: Gothic Home Decor Ideas: Antique Homes with an Edge
“We believe in restoring and honoring the original architectural elements of any home – always work with what you’ve got. In the case of a Gothic style property, lean into rooms like a library, sitting lounge, or guest bath, which are perfect opportunities for dark, moody, saturated colors like eggplant or hunter green, with dark wood trim, leather upholstery, and gorgeous Persian area rugs. Don’t be afraid to incorporate metals into your decor selections – wrought iron, brass, or steel (pick two at max) are options for light fixtures, fireplace tools, picture frames, and sculptural pieces that could amp up the Gothic character.”
